Clonkill is a townsland in the Taughmon/Turin Parish of Westmeath and the name is translated from the Irish Cluain Cille, Cluain meaning meadow and Cill/Cille menaing Church, which translates literally as Church in the Meadow and this is depicted in the Clubs crest.

Clonkill GAA comprises Clonkill Hurling Club and Clonkill Camogie Club and is located adjacent to Loughegar National School (8km from Mullingar town). Along with Clonkill Hurling & Camogie Clubs it also accommodates The Loughegar Badmenton Club, Clonkill Handball Club, The Loughegar Community Group, The Local Women's Group and Playground Group.

The grounds currently includes an impressive floodlight playing field, grassed training area, floodlight Astro training area, Clubhouse / Community Centre, walking track and children's playground. This caters for all members, visiting clubs, the local national school and the wider local community.

The current and permanent grounds was purchased and developed in 1988 and was ready for hurling and camogie in 1990. Prior to this grounds were leased from local farmers to play the game and the locations of these temporary grounds changed from time to time. The original clubhouse was completed in 1996 and a new Clubhouse / Community Centre was constructed and completed in 2013 adjacent to the existing building. This new Clubhouse / Community Centre is an impressive building and along with the existing building, the club now houses, function rooms, dressing Rooms, gym, tea & coffee shop during games, and a sports hall that can accommodate indoor hurling, football, soccer, rollerblade hockey, handball, badminton, social gatherings and functions to name but a few.
