It has stores with less range and alternative pricing scheme to that of larger Coles stores, but with an expanded offering of premium gourmet goods, and design elements tailored to the more affluent communities, with public relations efforts such as a mural drawn by a local artist.[2]

It has since expanded to twenty-one sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland[3] and Western Australia.[4] This includes the Balwyn North store, which opened in 1960 and was the site of the first Coles supermarket in Australia (but not the first Coles store, which opened in Collingwood in April 1914).[5] The most recent site launched as on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne.[6]
