Deighton station is the first station 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Huddersfield railway station on the Huddersfield Line towards Leeds.

History

There have been two stations at Deighton, on different routes.

The first station, on the branch line to Kirkburton, opened on 30 August 1871,[1] the branch having opened in 1867.[2] This station was situated on the north-east side of Whitacre Street.[2] It closed on 28 July 1930.[1]

The present station was opened on 26 April 1982[1] by Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive). It is to the south-west of Whitacre Street and close to the site of the former Kirkburton branch junction.[2]

Facilities

The station is unstaffed but has a ticket machine. Tickets must be purchased before boarding the train to benefit from any fare discounts. There are waiting shelters on both platforms, but no other permanent buildings. Train running information is offered via automated announcements, digital information screens and timetable posters. Both platforms have step-free access via ramps from the nearby road.[3]

Services

The hourly local service here is provided by TransPennine Express, eastbound to Dewsbury and Leeds, westbound to Huddersfield. This includes Sundays.[4] No Northern Trains services call, as the former service to Wakefield Kirkgate has been withdrawn and replaced by a limited replacement bus service, whilst the Huddersfield to Bradford trains pass through non-stop.[5]
