Services
The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh provides emergency passport and citizenship services, along with a range of other services including notarial tasks, assistance in cases of death, arrest, illness, injury, or destitution of U.S. citizens in Saudi Arabia. They also offer guidance on visas, passport renewals, tax, selective service, social security, veterans affairs, and voting for U.S. citizens. Additionally, they provide lists of local service providers such as attorneys, medical professionals, tax specialists, and translators. They do not facilitate intercountry adoptions or perform marriages.[3]
History
The U.S. Legation was initially established in Jeddah in 1942, after commencing full diplomatic relations in 1940. By 1949, the U.S. Mission, which was initially situated in a traditional house in the old city center, was elevated to the status of an Embassy.[4]
In 1952, the Embassy relocated to what is now the Consulate General location. By 1984, in alignment with all other foreign missions, the Embassy was moved to Riyadh. The former Embassy compound in Jeddah currently operates as a Consulate General.
