Fred Boyd (basketball)

Freddie L. Boyd (June 13, 1950 – October 8, 2023) was an American National Basketball Association (NBA) player whose career lasted from 1972 to 1978.

Boyd played in college for Oregon State University, and was drafted in the first round (5th pick overall) of the 1972 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Boyd played in 327 career games over six seasons for the 76ers and the New Orleans Jazz.

Following his playing career, Boyd became a coach at the high school and junior high level. He also served as an assistant coach for his alma mater from 1987 to 1992. Boyd died in Bakersfield, California on October 8, 2023, at the age of 73.[1]
