Hashim Abdul Rahman

Pengiran Anak Hashim (15 August 1907 – 27 December 1998), also simply referred to as P. M. Hashim,[1] was a Bruneian nobleman and politician who formerly held several high-ranking positions which included being a member of the Privy Council,[2] Legislative Council,[3] and the Islamic Religious Council.[4][5]

Biography

Career

On 24 August 1952, Pegiran Anak Hashim was appointed as a wazir, becoming a member of the Privy Council and Legislative Council.[6] In the absence of the Sultan beginning on 14 March 1959, him alongside Salleh Mohammad were tasked with negotiating for a written constitution for the country. This would lead to the creation of the 1959 Constitution of Brunei.[7] It was announced that Hashim was among the 7 members appointed to be inside the Legislative Council on 4 May 1960.[8]

Death

On 27 December 1998, Pengiran Anak Hashim died.[9]

Personal life

Family

Pengiran Muda Hashim is born on 15 August 1907, to Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman and Pengiran Fatimah. A vizier's son. His father served as Pengiran Bendahara for 25 years, starting in 1918 and ending in his death during the Japanese occupation.[10] He is the brother of Pengiran Anak Mohammad Alam, Pengiran Anak Omar Ali,[10] Pengiran Anak Siti Kula,[11] Pengiran Anak Mohammad,[12] and Pengiran Anak Damit. Pengiran Muda Hashim was married to Pengiran Anak (Princess) Besar, the daughter of Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam II.[13] He is the great-grandson of Sultan Hashim Jalilul Alam Aqamaddin.[14]

Upon taking up as one of the wazirs of Brunei, he was bestowed the title of Yang Teramat Mulia Seri Paduka Pengiran Bendahara Seri Maharaja Permaisuara on 24 August 1952.[6]
