Heidi Stöckl
Heidi Stöckl is a German researcher and sociologist at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.[1][3] Her research investigates gender-based violence and human trafficking. She has previously worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and with the World Health Organization on the design and implementation of strategies to end violence against women.[4]
Early life and education
Stöckl was born in Germany and was an undergraduate student at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she studied political sciences. She moved to the Free University of Berlin, where she completed a diploma in political science. Stöckl studied sociology at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. She was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to complete her doctoral research on evidence-based social intervention with Ann Buchanan.[5] During her doctorate, she studied the epidemiology of intimate partner violence amongst pregnant women in Germany.[2]
Research and career
Stöckl was awarded a British Academy postdoctoral fellowship, and joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.[6][7]
Stöckl became a lecturer in the Gender Violence and Health Centre at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.[5][8] She was made Director of the Gender Violence and Health Centres in 2017.[9] Her research considered violence against women and girls.[10][11] In 2021, she moved to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
