Plot

In 1965, a teenage girl uses the Hell Correspondence to contact Enma Ai, the Hell Girl, a mysterious figure who can send someone whom you have a grudge against to Hell in exchange for forfeiting your own soul to Hell once you died. She sent a girl who bullied her to Hell, but showed regret. Ai told her that there was no point, as it was already done. In 2019, that same girl, now aged and ill, told her journalist son Kudo Jin her story right before she died. He then published the story.

High schooler Ichikawa Miho attended a concert of Maki's, a charismatic rising musician, where she was groped by a pervert. Another girl, Nanjo Haruka who is obsessed with Maki, saved her and the two became close friends. Miho skipped school to go with Haruka to a concert of Mikuriya Sanae, a popstar. During the concert, a man jumped on the stage and slashed Sanae's face with a knife. Jin and Maki, who were in attendance, detained him. Sanae was taken home and became distraught after seeing the scars on her face. She came across Jin's article, and at midnight, accessed the Hell Correspondence site and typed in the name of her attacker, Nagaoka Takuro. She saw a vision of Hell, and met Ai who gave her a straw doll with a red thread tied around it. She was told that once the thread is untied, Takuro will be sent to Hell, but when she dies, Sanae will also go to Hell.

Sanae met up with Jin to discuss about the Hell Correspondence which he advised her to not pull the thread and to move on with her life. However, pushed over the edge by a cruel letter from Takuro, Sanae pulled the thread in front of Jin and the doll dissolves. Takuro was dragged to Hell. His mother went to the Mikuriya residence to beg for forgiveness. Sanae told her that she sent her son to Hell and resumed her singing career with Maki as her manager.

During Sanae's performance, Ai appeared before Sanae and said that she must take her to Hell. She explained to the confused Sanae that Takuro's mother had put her name in Hell Correspondence and pulled the thread. Later,Takuro's mother visited Sanae's parents and committed suicide.

After Sanae's disappearance, Maki held an audition to replace Sanae. He chose Haruka as the new soloist. He made Haruka eat the drugs he is taking called "candies" then they kissed. Afterwards, Haruka meet with Miho who is still waiting for her after the auditions. However, Maki told her to stay away from Haruka since she is not pure.

One day, Miho went to Haruka's residence wherein she saw that Maki drove Haruka home and they kissed before he leaves. Haruka entered her home and beats her mother. Bothered by the noise, Miho decided to knock on the door. Haruka's mother opened it and Miho saw Haruka's mother bruised faced. Haruka showed up and beats Miho and told her to stay away from her.

A distraught Miho walked home, thinking Haruka was brainwashed by Maki. She went to Kudo's apartment to find more information about Maki. Kudo confirmed that Maki is a dangerous man. He gives "candies" to everyone around him. Also, Kudo played a voice recorder wherein Maki is having a conversation with his henchmen about killing Haruka during the live performance as a sacrifice to cleanse the world.

The next day, Kudo and Miho kidnapped Haruka and told her about the sacrifice. After being released, Haruka went straight to Maki's house. She told him that Kudo knew about the drugs and the sacrifice without mentioning Miho.

Kudo placed a bug in Haruka's bag and heard everything. Before he can send a text message to Miho that Haruka knows about the sacrifice, one of Maki's henchmen knocked him out.

When he woke up, he found himself in an abandoned building with Maki. Maki stabbed Kudo, killing him. The next day, while Miho was having breakfast, she heard about Kudo's murder and decided to access the Hell Correspondence site by midnight to send Maki to hell.

Miho attended the concert and pulled the string of the doll, sealing the contract with Hell Girl. Enma Ai appeared and sent Maki to hell. Miho jumped on the stage before the metal block collapsed, saving Haruka while Maki disappeared.

Haruka and Miho reconciled and became friends again. Around the same time, Maki's disappearance and his true colors were finally revealed to the public, causing both Maki's albums and singles' sales to drop rapidly and his men were later arrested by the police thanks to Kudo's testimony before his death.
