Reception

The series has received positive reviews. Nicholas Dupree for Anime News Network gave the first volume of Hello, Melancholic! an overall B rating; remarking that while the series is an "extremely familiar story" of an anxious teenager who has trouble making friends crossing paths with a quirky girl who sweep them off their feet, "that doesn't mean it can't be a good one if told well, and through this first volume, this series is a firmly charming riff on the formula."[8]

Erica Friedman of Yuricon gave the first volume and overall 8 rating, noting that “Hello, Melancholic! is a story of a life redeemed from the darkness. It’s a joy to experience sneaking out and jammimg with Minato and a delight to see her lifted by Hibiki and given space and imprimatur to spread her wings and fly.” She went on to praise Mo Harrison's lettering work in the English volume for capturing the music being played on the page.[9]

Hello, Melancholic! was included on the School Library Journal's recommendation list of nine LGBTQIA+ manga for teens.[10]
