Hirayasumi

Hirayasumi (ひらやすみ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Keigo Shinzō. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits since April 2021.

Written and illustrated by Keigo Shinzō, Hirayasumi started in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits on April 26, 2021.[2] In October 2023, Shinzō stated that the manga would enter on hiatus until 2024, explaining that he was not sick, but that he required more time to" draw the manga in a satisfactory way that will leave no regrets," adding that he will still be drawing almost every day until the its return.[3] Shogakukan has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on September 10, 2021.[4] As of August 30, 2023, six volumes have been released.[5]

In North America, the manga has been licensed for English release by Viz Media.[6]

Reception

Hirayasumi ranked third on "The Best Manga 2022 Kono Manga wo Yome!" ranking by Freestyle magazine.[12] It won the Tokyo News Services' TV Bros magazine Bros. Comic Award 2021.[13] The manga was nominated for the 15th Manga Taishō in 2022 and placed third with 66 points.[14][15][16] The series ranked sixth on the Publisher Comics' Recommended Comics of 2022.[17] Alongside Nabe ni Dangan wo Ukenagara, Hirayasumi ranked 18th in the 2023 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga for male readers.[18] It was nominated for the 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2023.[19]

The series received positive comments from manga artists, including Inio Asano, Masakazu Ishiguro, Misaki Takamatsu, Retto Tajima, Taiyō Matsumoto and Yama Wayama.[4] It was also praised by the comedy duo the Asagaya Sisters.[20]
