Salmon made his debut for Tasman in 2017. He was named in the Blues squad for the 2018 Super Rugby season but did not play.[5] He was part of the Tasman team that won the Mitre 10 Cup in 2019 for the first time. He was again part of the Mako side that won their second premiership title in a row in 2020. Tasman again made the final in 2021, with Salmon coming off the bench but the Mako this time lost 23–20 to Waikato. Salmon was signed by Hawke's Bay for the 2023 Bunnings NPC.
