Jakub Kulhánek

Jakub Kulhánek (born 30 June 1984) is a Czech diplomat and politician. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic from April to December 2021 and, as of 2023, serves as the Czech ambassador to the United Nations.

Kulhánek graduated from Charles University in area studies and received a Master of Arts degree in international relations from Georgetown University. He went on to hold several civil service positions in the Czech government — including at the Ministry of the Interior — was employed as a consultant by CEFC China Energy, and worked as an analyst with the Association for International Issues.[1]

Kulhánek stood for the European Parliament in the 2019 European Parliament election as a candidate of Social Democracy.[2] In April 2021 he was appointed foreign minister, succeeded the following December by Jan Lipavský following the appointment of Petr Fiala as prime minister.[3] In 2022 he was appointed Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, and presented his credentials in February of that year.[4]
