Jeremy Snyder is an American poet. He serves as poet laureate of Vallejo, California.[4][1][5]

Background

Snyder was born in Vallejo, California,[4] educated at the University of Montana,[2] and served in the United States Navy.[2]

Poetry

Jeremy Snyder began writing poetry at age 5.[3] From 2018 to 2022, Snyder hosted a poetry open mic, Poetry by the Bay at the downtown Oddfellows Hall and online.[6][7][1][4] Poetry by the Bay was founded in 2008 by Kyrah Ayers.[8][9][1] In 2023 Keith Thompson took over as host and the group now meets at the Mira Theatre.[10] Snyder became Vallejo’s poet laureate in January 2020 and serves until December 31, 2023.[11][12] He was preceded in office by D.L. Lang and Dr. Genea Brice.[13] His term was extended through 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting the live events and poetry workshops he had planned.[14][12][15]

In 2021 Snyder appeared on the Rooted in Poetry podcast,[16][17] performed at a virtual benefit for the Solano County Library Foundation,[18][19][20] performed with his predecessors at Alibi Bookshop,[14][21] and with fellow San Francisco bay area poets laureate in Richmond, California.[22][23][24] He hosted the National Poetry Month celebrations at the Solano County Library in 2022[25] and Alibi Bookshop in 2023.[6]
