Kalyani Dhokarikar

Kalyani Dhokarikar a former Indian test cricketer (Devanagari: कल्याणि धोकरिकर; born in Nagpur, on May 9 1971, previous married name Kalyani Umbrani) is an Indian former cricketer who played as an all-rounder, batting right-handed and bowling right-arm medium-fast. She appeared in one Test and eight One Day Internationals for India between 1995 and 2000. She played domestic cricket for Maharashtra.[1][2]

Kalyani's love for cricket stemmed from her mother Smt. Sandhya’s passion for sports, a renowned softball player in her school and college. As a single mother Sandhya supported and raised Kalyani with determination to be successful . Kalyani admired her mother's dedication and strength. As Kalyani lost her father when she was barely 3 years old she

owes her success to her mother and her maternal grandparents who guided and nurtured her dream to pursue cricket.

Kalyani demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership on and off the field.

Kalyani was a force to be reckoned with, batting right-handed and bowling right-arm - fast. Her professional career spanned from 1995 to 2000, during which she represented India in both Test and One Day Internationals. She had a fierce passion for the game.

Career

After completing her schooling in the prestigious St Joseph’s School, Pashan, Pune, she pursued her higher education at the BMCC College of Commerce - Pune.

One of Kalyani's proudest moments came in 1995 when she was part of the champion Indian women’s cricket team that lifted the Centenary Cup (in a Tri series ) in New Zealand. It was a historic victory,

She also was a part of the Indian team to win a series against England in England.

Not only did Kalyani excel at the international level, but she also captained her state, Maharashtra, and the west zone teams ( which comprised of 5 states) in domestic cricket. Her leadership qualities were commendable, and she led her team to several victories.
