Notes
- Golden City served as the seat of Jefferson County, Jefferson Territory from November 6, 1860 to June 6, 1861, and the seat of Jefferson County, Colorado Territory since November 1, 1861.
- Golden City served as the capital of the Provisional Government of the Territory of Jefferson from November 13, 1860 to June 6, 1861, and the capital of the Territory of Colorado from August 14, 1862 to December 9, 1867.
- Golden City shortened its name to Golden in 1876.
- Guadaloupe was the original seat of Guadaloupe County, Colorado Territory (renamed Conejos County after only six days.)
- Henderson Island is now the Adams County Fairground.
- Idaho was the original seat of Clear Creek County.
- Kinikinik is a nine-letter palindrome.
- La Porte (now spelled Laporte) was the original seat of Heele County, Jefferson Territory and then Larimer County, Colorado Territory.
- The La Salle post office serves the Town of LaSalle.
- The Town of La Salle changed the spelling of its name to LaSalle, although the State of Colorado, the United States Postal Service, and the United States Census Bureau continue to use the original spelling.
- McPhee is now submerged in McPhee Reservoir.
- Mount Vernon was the home of Territorial Governor Robert Williamson Steele and administrative capital of the Provisional Government of the Territory of Jefferson.
- Oro City was the original seat of Lake County.
