Mariyannapalya
Mariyannapalya is a village near Hebbal in northern Bengaluru , Karnataka, India. Its neighboring villages are Kempapura and Dasarahalli, it is also bordering the Nagawara Lake (previously Lumbini Gardens) , Embassy Manyata tech park etc. The origin of this village dates back to about 250 years , the founder of this village was MANDI MARIYAPPA REDDY (the village is named after the founder ) who was an affluent agriculturalist and trader, his descendants are living in the same locality to this day.
The original native population of the village are mainly Reddy's who are Roman Catholics by faith . One should also note that their immense respect, patriotism and love for the local language KANNADA and the traditions of Karnataka is highly respected and welcomed by all the native people of the surrounding villages.
Mariyannapalya village also has a church within its borders named St.James Church, Mariyannapalya . The annual feast of this church is celebrated to this day on the last Sunday of every July, ( since 1943 i.e from the date the old church was built ). The village also celebrates Christmas in a very grand manner every year. The natives invest a lot of time and effort in decoration activities of the church, Christmas Crib building which is a must visit activity on 25th December evening if you are living in the surrounding areas. The local people are very welcoming and humble , please do try to visit the church premises on Christmas evening to get a glimpse of the efforts put in by the native people.
Mariyannapalya village also has a government secondary high school within the premises of the church compound , this is till date a KANNADA medium school serving the children of the locality and surrounding areas since decades . The school is managed by the assistance of the church parish priest and the nuns of St Anne's Convent , Mariyannapalya.
