Murillo (footballer)

Murillo Santiago Costa dos Santos (born 4 July 2002), simply known as Murillo, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Nottingham Forest.

In this Portuguese name, the first or maternal family name is Costa and the second or paternal family name is dos Santos.

Early life

Born in São Paulo, Murillo lost his father, a lifelong supporter of Corinthians and the person who led him into playing futsal, at the age of 10.[1] He began his career with São Caetano in 2013, and subsequently played for ECUS and São Bernardo.

Career

Corinthians

Murillo joined Corinthians' youth setup in 2019, from União Barbarense.[2] On 16 January 2023, after playing for the under-20 side in the year's Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, he was promoted to the first team.[3]

On 10 February 2023, Murillo renewed his contract until the end of 2025.[4] He made his first team debut on 26 April, coming on as a second-half substitute for Bruno Méndez in a 2–0 home win over Remo, for the year's Copa do Brasil.[5]

Murillo made his Série A debut on 29 April 2023, starting in a 2–1 away loss against rivals Palmeiras.[6] He quickly became a regular starter under head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo during the season, attracting interest of several European clubs, such as Napoli, Manchester City and West Ham United.[7]

Nottingham Forest

On 31 August 2023, Murillo signed with Premier League side Nottingham Forest on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.[8] His fee was reported as €12 million with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons.[9]
