Overview
Originally called the College Color High, the shoe was designed by Peter Moore and took elements from the Air Jordan 1, Nike Terminator, and Air Force 1 shoes.[1] The shoe was popular when it was first released due in part to the different color schemes that were released. These were created to represent the different colors of universities and their basketball teams.[2]
While the Nike Dunk would not be as popular as the Air Jordan line, Nike used the shoe to enter the skateboarding market and decided to launch a new variant of the shoe made exclusively for skateboarding called the Nike SB Dunk.[3] The shoe saw popular success among the skaters and even enter mainstream popularity outside of the sport and keep the line popular well into the 2000s.[4]
Terminator
Nike Terminator is distinguished from the similar Nike Dunk by its unusual logo — the word "Nike" in large letters across the heel of the shoe. The Terminator also has a lace loop on the heel to facilitate wrapping the laces around the shoe;[5] this and the logo were styles shared by other basketball shoes of the time, for example the Reebok BB5600. Colorways included white with brown, yellow, orange trim and white with gray trim.
The Vintage Terminator "Georgetown" and "Michigan" and "St. John's" have the team colors of those college basketball teams. Some were specifically made for Georgetown, with "Hoyas" on the heel instead of "Nike".
The Terminator High Supreme "Thrash Metal Pack"[5] was a special edition in a black and gold colorway.
