O. Palmer Robertson

Owen Palmer Robertson (born August 31, 1937 in Jackson, Mississippi[1]) is an American Christian theologian and biblical scholar.

Robertson attended Belhaven College (now Belhaven University) in Jackson, MS (BA). He received his theological training at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA (BD), and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA (ThM, ThD). He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in the US (PCUS) in 1965, and in 1973 became a founding member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

Robertson has pastored a number of churches in Picayune MS, West Chester PA, St Louis MO, and Hyattsville MD. He taught at Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson MS), Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia PA), Covenant Theological Seminary (St Louis MO) and Knox Theological Seminary (Fort Lauderdale, FL). He served as a missionary in Africa for 27 years, teaching at African Bible College of Malawi and African Bible University of Uganda. He served as principal of the latter institution from 2005 to 2019.[2]

Robertson is perhaps best known for his book The Christ of the Covenants.[3] His definition of a biblical covenant being "a bond in blood, sovereignly administered" has been widely noted.[4][5][6] His writings focus on a redemptive-historical approach to Scripture, having written several books on the OT, including The Christ of the Prophets, The Flow of the Psalms, The Christ of Wisdom, and New Testament Biblical Theology. Volume 1: The Testimony of the Four Gospels.

Robertson lives in Winston Salem, North Carolina with his wife, Joanna. He serves as head of Consummation Ministries.

In 2008, a Festschrift was published in his honor. The Hope Fulfilled: Essays in Honor of O. Palmer Robertson (ISBN 1596381159) included contributions by Bruce Waltke, Richard Gaffin, George W. Knight III, Simon J. Kistemaker, Robert L. Reymond, and Morton H. Smith.
