- 1902 – General Order Number 1 promulgated the change from State to Federal organisation for the Military of Australia.
- 1942 – World War II: The USS Sturgeon sank the Japanese ship Montevideo Maru. The ship was carrying 1,050 POWs, mainly from the 2/22nd Battalion and 1st Independent Company. There were no survivors amongst the prisoners.
- 1945 – World War II: The 7th Division landed at Balikpapan, Borneo as part of Operation OBOE.
