- 1918 – World War I: John Monash assumed command of the Australian Corps in France.
- 1942 – World War II: Three Japanese midget submarines attack Sydney Harbour. The depot ship HMAS Kuttabul was sunk with the loss of 22 on-board. All three midget submarines were lost.
