Rathinirvedam (2011 film)

Rathinirvedam is a 2011 Indian Malayalam-language Erotic film directed by T. K. Rajeev Kumar and produced by Revathy Kalamandhir. Starring Shwetha Menon and Sreejith Vijay. It is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, which itself was based on the novel of the same name written by P. Padmarajan.[2][3] The film was produced by G. Suresh Kumar under the banner of Revathy Kalamandhir. It stars Shweta Menon in the role of Rathi,[4] and Sreejith in the role of Pappu.[5] Shooting was done in the Onnattukara area of Kayamkulam and Mavelikkara, where the story is primarily set.[6][7]

Synopsis

Takes place in a village surrounded by hills and valleys. Pappu, a teenager, awaiting high school results to go to college, has plenty of time on hand. His trouble is adolescence, but neither his mother nor his aunt can diagnose his affliction. Everything around him excites and stimulates his sexual arousal. Twenty plus Rathi, the girl next door, has been a friend to him since he was a child. She becomes the object of his desire now. Initially unaware of Pappu's mind, later Rathi also starts reciprocating his feelings. They make love one night at the village Sarppakkaavu. Rathi is bitten by a snake but she asks Pappu to go home to avoid scandal. She silently limps to her home and hides this from everyone eventually dies from snake venom that night. As Pappu sets out to join his college the next day morning, he is aghast to see Rathi's dead body being taken away by a crowd.

The film was made at a low budget of 1.40 crore made a distribution share of 2.5 crore (US$310,000) and a satellite right of 1.75 crore (US$220,000). Rathinirvedam was one of the top grossed film of the year, compared to its low cost.[7]
