Remzi Musaoğlu

Remzi Musaoğlu (born 25 January 1965) is a wrestler from Bulgaria who has wrestled for both: Bulgaria and Turkey. He wrestled only in the bantamweight division (57 kg).

Remzi Musaoğlu won a silver medal at the 1984 Espoir (promising youth) World Championship under the name of Remzi Musov in the men's freestyle 52 kg.[1] At the 1984 Junior European Championship Remzi Musov held the gold medal in the men's freestyle 56 kg.[2]

Domestically Remzi Musov beat a strongest wrestlers, such as the three-time European champion and the World Championships medalist Stefan Ivanov, the 1986 European champion and the World Championships medalist Georgi Kalchev, the 1986 world super championship's winner Alben Kumbarov and Rumen Pavlov. He won Bulgarian champion title in 1987, 1988, 1989.[3]

He competed in the men's freestyle 57 kg at the 1988 Summer Olympics[4] under the name of Valentin Ivanov (Bulgaria).[5][6]

In 1990 he emigrated to Turkey and was immediately one of the best Turkish freestyle wrestlers in the bantamweight division. At the 1990 Grand Prix of Germany he won the first international medal for Turkey, Remzi Musaoğlu became the 1990 Grand Prix of Germany bronze medalist (he defeated Alejandro Puerto).

At the 1991 Yasar Dogu Tournament Remzi Musaoğlu won the gold medal, he beat Metin Topaktaş and Ahmet Ak (the 1989 European champion, the 1990 World Cup champion and the 1987 World Championships medalist).

Already in 1991, he became the vice-European champion in Stuttgart, where he was obviously even cheated out of the European title here. In the professional magazine Der Ringer, No. 5/1991, page 13, it is said about this: "To make a long story short: Soviet man Bagautdin Umakhanov received the title as a gift because Remzi Musaoğlu of Turkey was deprived of several points by an incompetent referee (in the final)."

He competed in the men's freestyle 57 kg at the 1992 Summer Olympics[7] (Turkey). Remzi Musaoğlu defeated Kendall Cross of USA 7–3 in the 4-th match.

At the 1993 European Championships Remzi Musaoğlu held the gold medal (he defeated the 1991 world championship's winner and the 1992 Olympic Games silver medalist Sergey Smal).
