Taxonomy

The first published description of the genus Leuzea is accredited to Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in 1805, in a work edited by Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck and de Candolle.[1] A 2006 phylogenetic study showed that as then circumscribed the genera Acroptilon and Leuzea were embedded within Rhaponticum (which already included Stemmacantha).[3] As of May 2023, Plants of the World Online treats Acroptilon as a synonym of Leuzea,[2] and places the former species of Rhaponticum in Leuzea.[4]
