SB19 was formed in 2016 by ShowBT Philippines, of which the members were selected from a talent search that year to undergo the same treatment and training as K-pop idols.[3] They debuted in 2018 when they released their debut single, "Tilaluha", which was met with weak reception.[4] Their follow-up single, "Go Up", was released in 2019, which brought them to mainstream success.[5] SB19 signed a recording contract with Sony Music Philippines the same year and followed it with the single release of "Alab (Burning)".[6] At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, they pay tribute to medical frontliners with the promotional single release of "Ikako" in May 2020.[7] Subsequently, they released their debut studio album, Get in the Zone, in July 2020, a pop record that included three of their previous single releases and three new recordings.[8]

They began experimenting with different sounds, starting with the release of their first EP, Pagsibol (2021), which included tracks of hip hop influence, all solely written by Pablo.[9] The EP spawned singles, "What?", "Mapa",[9] and "Bazinga",[10] the latter being among the most talked-about songs on Twitter, topping Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart.[11] They recorded the theme song to Love at First Stream (2021), "No Stopping You", which was released as a promotional single in December 2021,[12] followed by a Christmas single, "Ligaya".[13] In 2022, SB19 recorded renditions of "Kabataang Pinoy" with Bini and "Win Your Heart" as theme songs for Pinoy Big Brother: Kumunity Season 10: Teen Edition (2022) and Binibining Pilipinas 2022, respectively—both of which were released as promotional singles.[14][15] That same year, they also released "WYAT (Where You At)" and "Nyebe" as standalone singles,[16][17] followed by a promotional single release of their cover version of Eraserheads's "Christmas Party".[18]

They released their second EP, Pagtatag!, in 2023,[19] spawning their first sales hit single, "Gento",[20] which became their first entry to two of Billboard's record charts, achieving positions at the World Digital Song Sales (the first entry from a Filipino group) and the Philippines Songs charts.[21][22] Aside from releases of their own material, SB19 provided guest vocals for Ohwon Lee's "Love Yours" (2021),[23] and the remix of Jvke's "Golden Hour" (2023).[24]
