Shamkan District

Shamkan District (Persian: بخش شامکان) is in Sheshtamad County, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Shamkan.[3]

At the 2006 National Census, its population (as a part of the former Sheshtamad District of Sabzevar County) was 10,610 in 2,630 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 11,326 people in 3,239 households.[5] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 10,156 inhabitants in 3,114 households.[2]

In February 2019, the district was separated from the county to establish Sheshtamad County and divided into two districts, each with two rural districts. The city of Sheshtomad became the new county's capital.[3] The village of Shamkan was later elevated to the status of a city and became the capital of Shamkan District.[6]
