Spaceman (2024 film)

Spaceman is an upcoming American science fiction romantic drama comedy film directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day, based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. The film stars Adam Sandler, Paul Dano, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, and Isabella Rossellini.

Premise

As an astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust finds his earthly life falling to pieces, he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.[1]

Production

In October 2020, Netflix announced that the novel Spaceman of Bohemia would be adapted by screenwriter Colby Day into a feature film of the same name directed by Johan Renck and starring Adam Sandler.[2] In April 2021, Carey Mulligan was added to the cast, and the film was retitled Spaceman.[3] On April 19, 2021 it was announced that Paul Dano and Kunal Nayyar joined the cast.[4]

Principal photography began in April 19, 2021, in New York City, and wrapped on July 1, 2021, in the Czech Republic.[5][6]

Release

Spaceman was scheduled to be released by Netflix in 2023. However, the release of the film was postponed to an unspecified date in 2024, due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[7]
