Biography

VENUES was founded in 2015 under the name Break Down a Venue in the state capital of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. The band currently consists of clean vocalist Daniela 'Lela' Gruber, unclean vocalist Robin Baumann, guitarist Valentin Hahnemann and drummer Dennis Vanhöfen.

In July 2015, their first namesake EP Break Down a Venue was released.[1] The EP consisted of three tracks that they self-financed. In February 2017, the musicians announced that the band had changed their name to VENUES. National concerts have also been announced with groups such as Walking Dead on Broadway, Unleash the Sky, and Breathe Atlantis.[2] On April 20, 2018, it was announced that Arising Empire had signed the band.[3] On July 27, 2018, the band's label debut Aspire was released and became album of the week in the British magazine Kerrang![4]

On January 31, 2019, singer Nyves (real name Chrisi Krithinidou) announced[5] in a statement on the band's social media channels that she was parting ways the band with immediately to pursue other projects.[6] As a result, the band canceled their February and March 2019 tour with Our Mirage and Die Heart as they were looking for a second singer.[7] Nyves' successor Daniela 'Lela' Gruber was officially presented on the social media platforms on March 4.[8] Initially it was said that she was joining the band as an interim, but was confirmed on Facebook on April 17 as a full member of the band.[9] On October 12, 2019, the Band announced they would be back to writing new songs.[10]

Music

The band themselves describe their music as post-hardcore, emphasizing Nyves' clear female vocals as a special feature.[11] The style is similar to that of the German Melodic Death Metal band Deadlock.[12] In the music, the band worked with classic stylistic elements of metalcore and post-hardcore and combined them with the vocals of their first frontwoman Nyves.

On the label debut Aspire the music was described as a change from alternative rock with modern metal structures.[13] However, elements of pop music could also be heard in the music, whereby the music was also reminiscent of Evanescence at times.[14] VENUES is also compared to groups like Marmozets and PVRIS.[4]
