Waterford, Mississippi

Waterford is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States.[2] It is a small town located between Holly Springs and Oxford on Highway 7.

History

Waterford is named for the large amount of water that comes from Spring Creek. The original community of Waterford was located west of the present site. In 1900, Waterford had a population of 128.[3] Waterford is located on the Mississippi Central Railroad and was incorporated on February 8, 1838.[4]

On November 29–30, 1862, Waterford was the site of a skirmish that was part of the Union Army's Mississippi Central Railroad Campaign.[5]

Waterford is home to Wall Doxey State Park and is located within the boundaries of the Holly Springs National Forest.[6][7]

It was first named as a CDP in the 2020 Census which listed a population of 112.[8]
