The event served as a qualifier for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Later five Egyptian athletes (Abderrahmane Al Sayed, Ibrahim Moustafa, Samar Hossein, Sara Ahmed Samir, Farag Salma) were disqualified due to anti-doping violations.[2]
