Zelimkhan Akhmadov

Zelimkhan Adlanovich Akhmadov (Russian: Зелимхан Адланович Ахмадов (14 September 1975 – 24 September 2002) was the commander of the Grozny and Urus-Martan sectors during the Second Chechen war. He took part in the killing of hundreds of Russian servicemen and Chechens who collaborated with the Russians.

Biography

Zelimkhan Akhmadov was born in 1975 in Urus-Martan.[1] He was the youngest of the seven Akhmadov brothers, who belonged to the influential Gendargenoy teip.[2]

In the First Chechen War, Akhmadov fought against the Russian army as part of his brother Ramzan Akhmadov's battalion.[3]

During the Second Chechen War, Akhmadov commanded the Grozny and Urus-Martan sectors. He was known for numerous attacks and killings of Chechens who collaborated with Russia.[3] One of his last attacks was in April 2002, when 18 members of the pro-Russian Chechen OMON were killed.[4]

Akhmadov was blown up in a car bomb in September 2002.[5] Chechen OMON commander Musa Gazimagomadov is said to have been involved .[5]
