Tolecusatellitidae

Tolecusatellitidae es una familia de virus satélite de ADN monocatenario que dependen de un virus auxiliar para su replicación. Incluye dos grupos de virus satélite (los betasatélites y deltasatélites) clasificados en sus propios géneros Betasatellite y Deltasatellite.

Los betasatélites fueron descubiertos en 2003 y se encontraron en asociación simbiótica con los virus de la familia Geminiviridae y otras familias de virus de ADN monocatenario que infectan plantas. Los deltasatélites fueron descubiertos hasta hace poco en asociación con varias familias de virus de ADN monocatenario.[1]

Estos virus están compuestos por una cadena de ADN circular de ADN monocatenario de aproximadamente 2,7 kb y 1350 nucleótidos que no tiene identidad de secuencia con otros virus. La cápside es icosaedrica y carente de varias proteínas. No presenta envoltura vírica. A diferencia de los alfasatélites (familia Alphasatellitidae), que dependen de la replicación con su virus auxiliar, los betasatélites y deltasatélites también requieren de proteínas del virus auxiliar para poder fabricar su cápside. Inclusive son replicados por su propio huésped viral lo que podría considerarse una asociación parasitaria.[2]
