Arthur Harold Bruce Rydon MRCS, (Dec 1919 - Jan 2010), the son of Harold E. Rydon and Gladys Dinsdale, was born in Brisbane, Australia and raised in East Africa, where his family acquired property in the 1920s near Arusha. Educated at Eton he attended medical college during the second world war and practiced as a doctor. On returning to Africa after the war he became a pre-eminent expert on east African butterflies, collecting and naming a number of undiscovered species (Rydonia).
