- Type locality: San Francisquito Bay, Lower California.
- Type: Ivan M. Johnston (no.27); June; Growing on rocks in the upper sublittoral belt. CAS 1343. Isotype: sheet 69, including slides 210, 1072-1074, HAHF.
- Named for the collector Ivan Murray Johnston.
