- Holotype: IVPP V18499.1, complete left mandible.
Type locality and horizon: The Kuanti Formation, at a hill close to the Xiaoxiang Reservoir, Qujing, Yunnan, southwestern China, dating to the late Ludlow (Ludfordian Stage) 11–13, with a youngest age of, 423 million years ago. The fossils were collected from a horizon immediately below the first appearance of the conodont Ozarkodina crispa.
Etymology: The specific epithet is derived from amblys and odous (Greek) meaning ‘‘blunt tooth’.
