Piaractus brachypomus (Cuvier, 1818)

Holotype (unique): MNHN A-8627

Type locality: Brazil

Etymology: From brachy (= short), and pomum (= operculum), referring to shorter operculum compared to Colossoma macropomum. From: The ETYFish Project.
