- Type locality: Punta Pelicanos, Quintana Roo, Mexico (19°53' 20" N, 87°25' 50" W).
- Holotype: Mendoza González and Mateo-Cid; 9 May 2013; on intertidal rocks, female, male and tetrasporophytic thalli. ENCB 20661.
- Eponymy: Professor Maria Luisa (Magua) Named for Chávez Barrera, National School of Biological Sciences, Polytechnic National Institute, México.
