- Typus: W.A. Rodgers 479 (1 January 1981; holotypus: K; isotypus: DSM).
- Type locality: Tanzania. Kilombero Distr., south of Kidatu, Mwanihana Forest Reserve, Sanje Loggers Camp.

- This species was previously mentioned as Omphalocarpum sp. nov. by Lovette, Bridson & D.W.Thomas, Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 75(3): 878 (1988) quoad DT[D.W. Thomas] 3652 [K-64312.000].
