Type locality: Selai Island, 03°10.865’ N, 106°29.615’ E, Anambas Islands, Indonesia, 15–16 m depth.
Etymology: The species is named xanthocirritus (Latin: yellow-thread), with reference to the diagnostic yellow, thread-like filaments of the dorsal fin of TP males.
