- Typus: W. Elliot s.n. (Holotypus: E [cf. E00327896(JSTOR), 'unspecified kind of type']).
- Note: the paratype R. Wight 1481 (fruit only, [collected in 1866]; K [[http://specimens.kew.org/herbarium/K000031462 K000031462](JSTOR)]) has a duplicate in CAL, which consists of two different specimens: the upper one is P. madrassica and the lower one P. indica L. (vide Rout & Deb 1999). Paratype also deposited in LE 00017443(JSTOR).
- Type locality: India. Madras[Andhra Pradesh]: Simkachellam[Simhachalam].
