Diagnosis: Phlyctis agelaea similis sed ascosporis 60–130 x 12–30 µm differt.
Type: INDIA Kerela, Idukki district, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady, on bark, 23 March 2006, Biju Haridas 06–009837 (LWG, holotype).
Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the strong similarity with Phlyctis agelaea.
Ecology and distribution: Phlyctis subagelaea grows on bark in the tropical areas of southern India.
