The first part is ást (“love, joy”), cognate to Gothic 𐌰𐌽𐍃𐍄𐍃 (ansts), or áss (“deity”). The second part is fríðr (“beautiful”).
The Old Norse given name Ásta is a short form of Ástríðr and ancestor of Asta.
