From Proto-Tocharian *ā́ntë, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ént-o- (“in front”), *h₂ent- (“front, front side”). Compare Latin ante, Ancient Greek ἀντί (antí, “opposite, facing”), Sanskrit अन्ति (ánti), Old Armenian ընդ (ənd), and Old English ende (English end). Compare Tocharian B ānte.
