From ἀ- (ἀ-, “not”) + θιγγάνω (thingáno, “to touch”), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeyǵʰ-, same source as Sanskrit देग्धि (degdhi), Latin fingō, Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬰𐬀 (daēza, “wall”), and Old Armenian դէզ (dēz).
