[1] Indicator of imperative singular. From άιντε < *άιτε < *άετε with deletion of ‑γ- from Ancient Greek ἄγετε (ágete), imperative plural of verb ἄγω (“I lead”).
[2] From Medieval Byzantine Greek άμετε (plural of άμε) with syncope of unstressed ‑ε- and /mt/ > /nt/ > /nd/. The variation άιντε, has different etymology.
