βροῦκος
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- βρεῦκος (breûkos)
- βροῦκα (broûka)
- βροῦχος (broûkhos)
- βρύκος (brúkos)
Etymology
According to Beekes, it's clearly a Pre-Greek word, due to the vocalic variations. The form βρύκος (brúkos) was compared with βρύκω (brúkō, “to eat greedily”), but the agreement may be secondary.
