Etymology

From γρᾰμμᾰτῐκός (grammatikós): as an animate noun, a feminisation of γρᾰμμᾰτῐκός (grammatikós, noun); as an inanimate noun, a substantivisation of the feminine forms of γρᾰμμᾰτῐκός (grammatikós, adjective), in elliptical use for γραμματικὴ τέχνη (grammatikḕ tékhnē); as an adjective, regularly declined forms of γρᾰμμᾰτῐκός (grammatikós, adjective).
