κριός

See also: Κριός

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Uncertain. Traditionally connected with κέρας (kéras, horn). Could be derived from a Proto-Indo-European *ḱiker, with cognates including Latin cicer (chickpea), Old Armenian սիսեռն (siseṙn, chickpea). Beekes argues for an original meaning of "curved", comparing Lithuanian kreivas, Old East Slavic кривъ (krivŭ).
