Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Northeast Caucasian *ḳVlʡV ( ~ ḳ_w- -ɫ-,-ʕ-) (white): cognate with Ingush кӏай (ḳaj), Chechen кӏайн (ḳajn, white) and perhaps the first part of Udi кӏо-нак (ḳo-nak, leucoma, wall-eye).[1] According to Xajdakov, -ла (-la) is a determinative suffix, as in кӏюла (ḳjula, thin).[2]
