Etymology
From Proto-Mongolic *meŋgün, compare Dongxiang miengu.
Perhaps related to Western Yugur menek (“money”), Arghu بَنَكْ (benek, “small copper coin”) identified by Clauson with Common Turkic *benek (“spot, speck, freckle”) from Persian بنک (banak, “seed, pimple”) [1] (perhaps influenced by *beŋ (“birthmark”)). See Turkish benek.
